An Introduction to Watercolours in G8

We have had a very relaxing start with our watercolour unit. Mainly because I was away for one of the sessions so had to make it student-directed.

STEP 1

Research and experiment with 10 different techniques.

STEP 2

Create a colour swatch and test colour mixing

STEP 3

Choose an artist’s work and see if you can figure out how they did it

ANSWER: What did I learn? What do you want to try next? The last step was to combine 4-5 of the 10 techniques in a free choice painting.

NEXT WEEK

We will have 3 step-by-step workshops where the students will explore cling-wrap, salt, ink, pen, and masking fluid. The last step will be to choose their own theme inspired by:

MOVEMENT

TEXTURE/PATTERN

SHADOWS

or

GROWTH

Each heading is purposely flexible so that the students can paint what they are interested in. Each student has a Pinterest board where they are collecting their inspirations. They are also using mine: PINTEREST. They will need to follow the design cycle before submitting their final artwork.

I’ll share more next Friday.
