Grade 7 Name Sculptures Go Digital

The first project for grade 7 is now complete. The students have done a brilliant job creating these difficult pieces. Not only did they have to design, plan, cut, arrange, rearrange, and assemble the letters so that the sculpture was balanced and interesting from all angles, but they were also required to include the principles of art. If you look closely at the letters you will see that each letter must have one sample of the following: Pattern, Emphasis, Movement, Texture and Contrast.

The last stage of this assignment incorporated the iPad. The students had to photograph their sculpture, brainstorm characteristics which described themselves and then combine the results in a variety of apps (Movie FX, Megaphoto, Wordfoto, Superimpose and Snapseed). The steps were detailed in this handout:

As you can see the last step was to print and stick the final artwork onto their sketchbook covers. The students evaluated their work at home and will upload everything to their blogs.
