Practice Has Turned Into Action Sculpture In Grade 7

I have to say I had no idea the unit I had planned was going in this direction. The actual unit is to make a book sculpture with a figure responding to it.

For practice we looked at the proportions of figures and how to make them out of wire, foil, paper mache and plaster. The students had to demonstrate all three skills. They also were able to choose a proportioned figure or an exaggerated figure. The figures were so good I thought maybe we should create something amazing with them, so our practice became a sculpture!

The students spray painted their bases and stuck all the pieces together. Some students wanted to tell stories and others were capturing the movement.

These sculptures are gorgeous which makes me very excited for the book sculptures. If you would like to see more information about book sculptures have a look at:  http://www.pinterest.com/rjardin/sculpture/
