This is one of my favourite units which I taught two years ago with my students in Ghana. They still talk about Georgia O’Keeffe so I thought I’d bring the fun to Vietnam.
The students will be creating a copy of a Georgia O’Keeffe painting of their choice in oil pastels. To prepare the students for the task they had to revise the colour wheel, practise how to blend, select and balance appropriate colours. We discussed movement, focal point and abstraction.
Now they will be choosing the artwork they want to copy (learn from) and will use the grid technique to get an accurate drawing. Followed with colour matching and high level blending skills. I can’t wait to see the end results. If time permits we will then create our own paintings or tissue paper art inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe.
