G7’s Last Class With Jennifer Goss

This last project was so much fun. I like to call it “Gesso Madness”. The students were encouraged to play with Gesso, tissue paper, watercolours, charcoal, chalk, sand, leaves, oil pastel and black paint with glue. The idea was to work on 4 small paintings at once so they applied their Gesso first and played. Every mark represented the student’s personality and feelings it was fascinating to see the work develop. They also worked from a tree resource which unified the four images. The following lesson some art did not need any more work so they were framed while others could reapply the Gesso or strengthen their lines with any of the mixed media. My next grade 7 class will be creating poetry paintings for poetry month these techniques would be really fun to explore further but combined with text too.

Once the students were finished they then photographed their work and manipulated it on the iPads using Image Chef, Pecolator and Insta-Collage. These creations are also gorgeous.
