Clay in Grade 8

The students began their clay unit with a coil pot. Then they created a pinch pot and built up coils on the top part. Some students were very creative with their designs. Following the pots it was time to try slab building so the students created a plaque, which had to have building on, carving out and texture. Once they had experimented with pinch, coil, slab, modeling and joining the students were ready to complete their first major piece- a clay mask. There were no restrictions with the design of the mask except I wanted to see: creativity, building on, texture and pattern. So far I have been really happy with their results. Now the grade 8 students are going to make a caricature mugs for their last piece.
