Grade 7 has been learning all about TONE. They have seen examples of work which use tone and tried many of their own techniques from shading to hatching. I thought after they had created 3D shapes it would be fun to paint and tone an ice cream. Based on the enthusiasm from the students I thought I’d change my plans to incorporate Wayne Thiebaud’s cakes. The students have been drawing cakes from photographic sources in charcoal and chalk. The results are fabulous.
These drawing are actually the development to their final tonal cake painting. If they do a great job they are going to be rewarded with a yummy cake to eat. If you are interested in learning a bit more about Wayne Thiebaud then have a look at this video:
